Laurel McConkey, a graduate of the University of North Texas, has been playing the harp professionally for over 25 years. She has played for over 1000 weddings, as well as numerous dinners, teas, luncheons, cocktail parties, grand openings, funerals, fashion shows, quinceaneras and other special events. Hotels that Laurel has appeared regularly at include the Ashton Hotel, Omni Dallas Hotel Park West, Sheraton Park Central Hotel, Melrose Hotel, Plaza of the Americas Hotel and Westin Hotel Galleria. She has performed with the Northeast Texas Symphony and Fort Worth Chamber Orchestra, as well as playing at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center with Ray Charles and Gary Morris. Dignitaries who have enjoyed Laurel's music include Van Cliburn, Bill Blass, Suze Orman, Rita Moreno, Jane Goodall, Ron Paul and George W. Bush.
Laurel was featured in the “Discover” section of THE DALLAS MORNING NEWS and her harp and flute duo was recommended in every issue of DALLAS/FORT WORTH WEDDINGS. She has performed live twice on the morning show for KZPS-FM 92.5 and appeared twice on Mike Castelucci's "The Why Guy" on WFAA Channel 8.
Professional Singer & Actress
In addition to being an accomplished harpist, Laurel is a professional singer and actress who has performed with the Dallas Opera, Fort Worth Opera, Music Theatre of Wichita, Dallas Gilbert & Sullivan Society, Dallas Symphony Chorus, Musicana Dinner Theatre of Florida, and toured nationally in A CHRISTMAS CAROL. She especially enjoys combining her love of theater and music into special presentations for church and civic groups. Two of her most popular programs are “Christmas in North America” and “The Irish Harp in Story and Song”.
Laurel has a huge repertoire of music for special occasions and can even sing in Hebrew and Yiddish, as well as Spanish, French, Italian, German and Czech. She also plays authentic Celtic music on her Irish harp.
